Hospice of Dubuque is excited to offer Camp Kaleidoscope, a free camp for grieving children ages 5-13 who have recently lost a loved one. The camp focuses on the grieving process and encourages connections with others who have experienced similar losses. The camp is designed to normalize children’s feelings of loss, so they know they are not alone. Hospice of Dubuque’s trained staff members will facilitate activities to support enhanced coping skills through a combination of activity stations while incorporating fun and learning throughout the day. For more information contact Mary Boots at 563.582.1220 or email bootsm@hospiceofdubuque.org
Highly skilled Hospice of Dubuque staff and volunteers will be providing educational activities, leading games, and enjoying time with campers.
A certified yoga instructor will also be present in the morning to lead and educate campers through the tools and techniques of yoga.
A Hospice of Dubuque nurse will be present at all times throughout the day. If your child needs medication administered, will use an inhaler, or needs to have an epi-pen present, please communicate this need when registering.
Dress for the weather. Campers will need to be able to move around freely without restriction from clothing. Shorts, a t-shirt, and tennis shoes will be the ideal outfit for the day as we will be active and spending time outside. Camp Kaleidoscope will take place as scheduled rain or shine.
If you would like to have your child use sunscreen or bug spray, please label the items and send withyour child. Please make sure you have signed the release to allow assistance to help your child apply sunscreen or bug spray.
A special memorial celebration for campers and their families to honor loved ones will take place from 2:45-3:00. We encourage family members to experience this memorable event together. Please notify us if you are unable to attend.
When butterflies come together, they are referred to as a kaleidoscope. Butterflies start out as caterpillars and undergo a beautiful transformation. It is our hope that campers can come together as a group to process their grief and begin their transformation into healing.
